Alex and Stella enjoying a cup of "Jitter Juice" to calm their first day jitters! |
We had a fabulous first three days of school! We spent a lot of time meeting our new classmates by doing lots of "Getting to Know You" activities. One class favorite was drinking "Jitter Juice." We read the book
First Day Jitters and learned that everyone gets anxious for the first day of school--including teachers! Then the students wrote about their own jitters before coming to second grade. To get rid of the butterflies in our bellies, we each had a cup of "Jitter Juice."

Another favorite class activity was making our "Getting to Know You" zipper pulls. Each child got a certain number of beads based on who they are. For instance, if you were a girl, you got a pink bead, or if you had a pet at home, you got a white bead. We had beads for lots of different things, even sports beads to show what our favorite sports were. The kids then strung their beads and attached them to their backpacks to make cool zipper pulls.
