Paleontologists

The kids have really enjoyed our recent science unit on fossils and dinosaurs. We've been learning about animals that have gone extinct, as well as animals of today that are endangered. On Friday, we had fun pretending to be paleontologists, as we tried to excavate chocolate chips (fossils) from our cookies (rock) using toothpicks. The children saw how difficult it is for paleontologists to remove fossils embedded in rock without damaging them.

Mason B. and Oni work hard to remove "fossils" from the "rock."

We also recently finished our writing unit on realistic fiction. The students had the opportunity to create a realistic fiction character and then develop a problem and solution for their character. For our celebration, we got together with our writing buddies and had hot cocoa.

The kids were also excited to have two Mystery Readers visit our classroom recently.
Jack's grandma, who lives in Pennsylvania, surprised him by reading No More Monsters For Me.

Mason B.'s dad surprised him by coming to read Where the Wild Things Are.
