The children have been working so hard to read more fluently. Our mini-lessons have focused on scooping words into longer phrases, talking like the characters, making our voices match our character's moods and what's happening in the story, and reading at a 'just-right' pace (not too fast and not too slow). To bring all of our mini-lessons together, the students performed Reader's Theater skits this week for the other second grade classes and one kindergarten class. They worked so hard to read with strong fluency and expression, and I was so proud of them. Here are some pictures of our performers, although you'll have to look hard to figure out who's hiding behind the mask!
The kids were also excited to welcome two Mystery Readers to our classroom. If you'd like to be a Mystery Reader this year, send me an e-mail and we'll get you scheduled!
