During this past week, we spent a lot of time learning about nouns, including how to differentiate between common and proper nouns. One of the games we played this week to help further our understanding of nouns was "Person, Place, or Thing Bingo." The kids each received a gameboard and then pulled a word card out of the bag. They then had to decide if the word they had drawn was a person, place, or thing, and then marked that on their Bingo card. Here's a group of three of our friends trying to fill up their gameboards.
We also spent a lot of time this week working on making change from $1.00. This is often a difficult concept for second graders, so I try to make it as fun and concrete as possible. One of the most popular activities we did was our classroom store. The students had a variety of items they could "buy" and then they took that item over to a "cashier," who gave them their change. It was fun experience for all! Here's a picture of one of our cashiers and one of our buyers.
